Bummer.

Note to self: be obedient in all things. . .

I did a photo shoot today of these lovely ladies:

And parked where I shouldn't have parked. . .

After paying $75 and meeting a nice gentleman named Rob
the Durango and I were once again free to go. . .

Lesson learned.

I can't be hugely mad at this- it was my own fault.
I knew very well that if I parked here that I could get caught.
It was my choice.
Dang it.

It is all worth the "shot"

I like to think that I am an artistic person.

My mom is very creative and artsy so I contribute it to her.

When I was young I would spend hours researching photographers. . . most of my peers would be MSN-ing it up while I on the other hand spent my time in front of the computer getting educated. . .

I have always loved photography, but a photographer told me once that there is no career - shot my dreams right down.

Then yearbook happened my senior year.

My friend Kaden purchased a camera.

And I fell in love.

I particularly like taking pictures of people.

Don't get me wrong a good landscapes are beautiful and good every now and again, but people are beautiful - everyone in their own way and I love it.

The night before each shoot is like waiting for Christmas to come. . . I get overly excited yet nervous on what the outcome might be.

See I have never taken a class, and I haven't had the time to research all my camera skills. . . And lets be honest if I had the time I still wouldn't figure it out - I just know what I want the outcome to be and I mess around until I get it.

My friend Demi is getting married the end of December. I took her engagements last week and I brought along my friend Mike from ENDLESSphotography. He took behind the scene pictures and was showing me some technical stuff- I was showing him my adventurous/ crazy side (hence me standing in the freezing water above). He took these pictures of me and I love them.

I want to do powerful things with my photography one day - I have big plans. But those plans are to be saved for later.

The outcome of the shoot.

Oh and yes, Capturing Dawn Photography is my company name. I have a blog that you can check out, but I post most of my pictures on my Facebook page. Feel free to "Like" or leave a comment. It is always fun to know what people think.

panties and things.

Today I realized that I haven't worn underwear for longer than eight hours at a time in the last three days.  I kind of miss the feel of dry cotton on my bum. . . sorry if that is a little too much information, but honestly people, cotton panties are the way to go.
When I wake up in the morning and the first thing a do is throw a swim suit on.  Through out the day I will change from wet suit to dry suit, but I usually stay in my swim gear until I go to bed that night.  And despite the desire of dry undies I love days like these.  Days when I end up living at the pool, warmed by the sun, and cooled by the kids who find it so rebelliously fun to splash the lifeguard!  Don't tell, but I secretly enjoy it!

The summer season has once again confirmed to me that it is my favorite time of year.  Even though snow is great and winter scarves are wonderful I am just fine living in the sunshine, taking in my pool and wearing as little bit of clothing that is modestly possible.  I love the rows of plants growing in the garden and the lush fullness of the lawn.  Summer night are majestic complete with starry skies and musical crickets.  And for anyone who doesn't know about my flirtatious side, I am all about having a summer romance.    There are just somethings that don't change. . .

I have been trying to predict what direction my life is going to go in.  In the next year I have to make a choice out of the THREE BIG M's.  Mission, Major, Marriage.

  1. MISSION:  In a year from now I could be filling out mission papers!  . . . If you had to read that last part twice it is okay, it is hard to believe.  I seem too young to go on a mission.  Well at least I feel to young to be thinking about going on a mission.  I have always wanted to serve though and so if nothing else happens between now and then I will be getting ready to receive my call!  I will admit this makes me nervous.  This is the direction I see things going at this point.
  2. MAJOR: During Spring Semester I change my major to Communications!  I never really considered this before, but it maybe smart to finish my major and then go on my mission.  I guess this option will always be available and I will finish my major eventually I just have to decided if I want to finish before the mission or after, I guess in some cases it could be instead of too.
  3. MARRIAGE: The biggest M-word of them all and most definitely the greatest impact on my entire life. CLARIFICATION:  I am not seriously dating anyone right now, so don't be expecting any announcements of engagement or anything of the sort.  That is all I have to say about that.
Oh, another update!  A week ago I dyed my hair and it is DARK!  Darker than I have ever gone!  I liked it, loved it, hated it, contemplated it, liked it, and finally I love it again!  The first few days I couldn't decide if I looked like a gothic or like Pocahontas.  Grandma RueLeen called me her island girl, and others have said I was an indian princess.  The darkness is growing on me though and I think I will keep it for a while!

One more thing. . . I started Shay's senior pictures!  What do you think?

shout out to my two favorite!

Well today was my first official day of summer, and I had planned on spending it unpacking from my move home. . . however that did not happen.  Instead I got up later than usual, missed my morning run because it was raining, and to be honest I didn't mind the few more hours of sleep.  After finally getting ready for the day Mama and I ran to the store.  See, I had a missionary photo session scheduled for today, like I said earlier it was raining and so we needed to make some inside backdrops- there you have it ladies and gentlemen, Capturing Dawn Photography is going studio.  Mama and I made make-shift backdrops out of bedsheets and paint.  I must said we pretty much rocked it!  One backdrop in less than an hour (not counting drying time) and I love it!
After bringing the back drop in and setting up I made Mama pose for me.  She didn't really want to, but she was a good sport about it.  As soon as Shay walked in though, Mom was done and Shay was up.  She is used to it by now and has become quite the poser.  They both wanted me to get rid of these pictures, but to be quite honest I like them.  I like how true the picture is of my Mama and how Shaylie can pull off any look, even when she just got out of practice.  To cut to the chase, these two women are my favorite in the world, and it isn't just because they let me take pictures of them, there is more to it than that.  Thanks again, love you both!
Oh! and if you would like to check out pictures from the missionary shoot they are posted here, at my photography blog.

Merry Christmas today!

It is a sad day when all the Christmas decorations get put away.
It makes the house feel empty and bare- like there is something missing.
I would love to say I am one of those people who love to clean, but I am not. . . actually I straight out suck at cleaning- I get too distracted with the things I am supposed to be putting away, I guess you could say I just don't have the attention span for such things.
However when it comes to cleaning up the Christmas stuff it isn't just the lack of enthusiasm it is the dread of acknowledging that the season is over-

Soon enough I will be back at school.
I probably won't be home again for a few months.
I am going to long for my family and wish I was in the security of my home again.
I am going to wish for the magic of Christmas.
The power and hope that this time of year brings.

My mom has started to pull out the boxes- the cages that house the Shepherds and Wise Men throughout all the summer months.  These boxes trap the Nutcrackers, and close off all the beautiful twinkle lights and smells.
I don't want Christmas to go away.  I wish I could take it to school with me.  I would shove it in the Durango and keep it there- then when days are rough and I need to find an escape I will hop behind the wheel and Christmas and I will go and have a light parade, we will remember Christ and have his strength and power that this season brings to my heart.

O wait- ha!  I can take Christmas with me!  (BOM)
Hope you have a Merry Christmas today!

I NEED OPINIONS! (asap)

Well not necissarily as soon as possible, but got your attention right?

I have been thinking a lot lately "why not have a photography business?"  It is a THOUGHT and only a THOUGHT. . . IF I were to ever have a photography business I think this is what I would call it.  My sister made it up a few months ago and I like it a lot.
What do you think?  Yay or Nay?

Thanksgiving Break = PICTURES!

This weekend I pretty much took TONS of pictures. . . And well I pretty much loved it!

Sam was first up-  I needed to just be creative and to take pictures.  I needed to find some new spots, check out my old spots and I needed to get my creative juices flowing again.  Since Sam had come home with me I pretty much volunteered him to be my guinea pig.  He didn't mind one bit!
No. 2- These two handsome fellas were a hoot and a holler!  Bah!  Kids sessions can be so much fun!  Little Fred was all about the camera and Dillion was such a good sport!

Engagements pictures came third- and it was SO FLIPPIN' COLD!  poor Kristina and Kelby didn't even have coats on!  I had so much fun playing around and I hope I didn't make them feel too awkward haha! They were so cute together, I am so happy for Kristina!
After a week like this one I feel like I could really enjoy making a career/hobby out of being a photographer.  I honestly think that I would have loads of fun, but first I want to take some classes and get some equipment- my OWN equipment.

Christmas list:
Nikon D5000
CS5
Silver Spray Paint (to finish making a reflector)

To my Bosty.

To my dearest Bosty-sauce,
I miss your craziness!  I miss you wanting me to spin you around and around just to have me stop and have you say "'gain Kels- one, two, three- 'gain!"   I love your spunky little self and wish I could watch you grow up.  I wish I could have celebrated your birthday with you and kissed your face repetitively just to hear you giggle and feel you squirm in my arms!  I love you saucy!

The Holidays are killer- I wish I was home.  I don't think I have been more homesick at school until this point.  I just want to go home- my real home where my family is.  I want to be around those who have known me my entire life and that love me unconditionally.  I want to be by my family- and to enjoy all the simple moments that we share.  I want to laugh at the dry jokes my dad tells, I want to rough-house this kids and to paint my mom's toe-nails.  I want to cuddle up with my sister in her bed and talk about boys and how stupid they are.  I want to have late night conversations with my grandma Rueleen who ALWAYS has the best advice.  I want to help around the house.  I want to be able to escape to my home and just to get away from school and life- but here school is life and no matter where I go I have to deal with my own problems.  I have to figure things out on my own, and I have to grow up- all things I am not fond of.
I have ALWAYS been really close to my family.  I would often skip out on hanging out with my friends just so I could spend that time with my family.  I would give anything to be home right now.  This last week I have wondered why I came to USU.  I have asked myself over and over why I didn't choose a school closer to home, a school that I could have gone to for a very little cost.  I would have known people.  I could go home just to spend the afternoon and make it to class on time the next day.
I want to be home.  I miss my family.  I miss my kids.  I miss my friends.  I miss everything familiar about home.

a promise is a promise.

Look at this little man!  Isn't he gorgeous!  Can I say that about a boy?  Anyhow I promised Sandi that I would get some pictures up of her little chillins!  And so this is me kind of keeping my promise (:  The last time I went home I took head shots of my kids!  It has been extremely hard for me to stay focused on my studies this last week because these pictures have just been waiting for me to pay them a little bit more attention- I want to so badly, but for now I must have self control.  I just finished a huge test I have been studying for all day and now I have math homework, I need to type up my outline for my research paper (at this point I have no direction at all) and I am working on a group project in an hour- not to mention I need figure out my class schedule before midnight so that I can register!
I will get more pictures up of all the kids as soon as I can (possibly tomorrow or tonight late-late).  O and there is a very funny/sad story that goes along with this picture of Strat!

Then comes marriage.

Kristina and I have been friends for the longest time!  When we were little we called each other on the phone every night and then we would meet and go walking in the morning (like the older ladies did - we were probably only in sixth grade).  When Kristina asked me to take her pictures I was so excited, and nervous at the same time!  I hadn't been home for a few weeks so I had no idea what places looked like or how the lighting was or anything of the sort.
All turned out better than I had hoped though.  Kristina looks beautiful- it is really easy to take a beautiful picture when you have a beautiful subject!  I can't wait to take her engagements the next time I come home!

BIG QUESTION:  Should I go out in photography?

I love taking pictures. I love editing pictures. end of story.

Since I was a good little college student today, went to the parade and enjoyed the entertainment that little kids put on for us, then the game-- where getting wet was an understatement, then had homework.  BUT since I was so so good I can edit pictures all day tomorrow! (which is actually today, but I won't tell anyone.
I love these pictures.  I am thinking about majoring in photography.   Everyone I have talked to has encouraged me to become a photographer and take that route, but I just don't know what to do.

satisfied.

Every day I kick myself for not having my camera on me.  As I walk around on campus, to and from home as I sit by the fountain I wish I had a camera to exemplify the beauty that the Lord has put on this earth for us to enjoy.
The fall is beautiful in Logan.  Everything is changing colors, but yet still lush.  Where I come from the leaves barely start to turn colors when they freeze and just fall to the ground.  The weather has been spectacular.  Yes, I do love summer -- the heat, the green, the water, the sunshine! but fall is amazing! -- the colors are so rich, the air crispy and I love getting all bundled up in cozy clothing!
Anyhow yesterday I only had one class- yes it is homecoming and well long story short my other class got cancelled! SCORE!  I walked home and the as usual I was complaining that I didn't have my camera!  I was whining to Sam and so since we had to go back up to campus real quick anyway (free Scotsman's!) he made me bring my camera -- Nice work Samuel!
After a delicious lunch!  Walking home took almost an hour and a half compared to the regular seven minutes.  I loved it.  I have been craving the creativity to finding the different perspectives of an object and capture its beauty.  The need to take and edit photos is now satisfied for the moment and I am very much content.  I do however wish to have a marvelous new camera. . (hint. hint.) hehe
Yep I pretty much love Logan Falls! -- I am still not so sure on the winters though. . . .

BJ's Turn.

Oh BJ! gotta love him!
We were literally chasing the sun on these ones, but it was fun!
I wish the sun would have stayed out a little bit longer on Monday, not just to take these lovely pictures, but to get more accomplished before leaving home.

Fam Photo: attempt #1

I need to get a camera of my own for college.
I think I will go into with-drawl not being able to use my mama's Nikon D5000. .

Launa has helped me through a lot, and she has always supported me-
These pictures are of her and her family!
I had fun taking their pictures-
And I have learned some things I need to work on.
  • communication skills- having a plan, and explaining it to those I am working with
  • entertainment skills- give those I'm taking pictures of something to look at (me!)
  • creative skills- I want to make all my sessions different.  I need some new ideas!
Thanks for letting me take your pictures!

I'm tired.
