Ketchup please?

That wonderful red sauce that is slightly sweet, spicy and tangy. Ketchup.

Growing up I didn't care for ketchup- I was a barbecue sauce kind of girl. I always considered ketchup to be the trick to making kids eat their food- "Can you dip your chickens in the ketchup?" Besides that, kids like ketchup. It is the mask for everything unpleasant to eat. But like I said before I never liked it.

Actually looking back there was a reason I didn't like ketchup:
My family was headed out on a family vacation and we stopped to eat at a Burger King. I remember I had a hamburger- which I never get at fast food places anymore. And while I was eating it the ketchup that was on the patty stuck to the top of my mouth and I started choking. I remember turning to my mom and she simply stuck her finger in my mouth and dug it off the top of my mouth.

Sorry for the vivid story, but it scared me for life. . .

Then I turned 21 (almost) and something inside of me changed. Old age? Hormones? Laziness? I don't know what it was but I have crave the sticky sauce since I moved back to Logan.

I even go as far as having ketchup quesadillas (wheat tortilla with ketchup, nothing else). I know, not so nutritious, but it cures my craving for the time being.

Apples and Cowlicks

Sometimes I eat apples and embrace the fact that I have a cowlick.

It is Friday and this is me trying to stay focused long enough to finish my homework before the game. . .
Emphasize TRYING

Some Spice for the Season.

I made these pumpkin beauties today.
The pictures only give parcel credit to the wonder these babies do in your mouth.

I have kind of been on a pumpkin kick lately.
I have made pumpkin cookies twice and pumpkin brownies all in the last week. . .
Don't worry I share- one thing is for sure:
Home cooked food brings people together, bring on the baking!

The recipe is found here
I guest posted on a blog so check it out!

How about a cup of cake?

I made cupcakes yesterday for my visiting teaches
I decided to put the frosting in a ziplock bag and then cut off the tip to swirl the frosting on.
They looked beautiful.
I was kinda happy about how they turned out!

O and they tasted simply marvelous!- Huge Plus!

I didn't have any cupcake jackets (liners) for the pan,
so some of the cake cups didn't come out so smooth-
Instead of letting the cake crumbs go to waste we decided to just stir in some frosting.
Mmmm. so good!
One day we are going to crumb up a whole cake, stir in frosting, freeze it and eat it.
I think it sounds delicious!

Welcome to Logan:  Yesterday I played softball out on the lawn.  It was such a lovely afternoon!  And then I went to an outside dance party. . . Today it is snowing.  Happy Finals Week to be!

Mission: Eat Food, Feed Hunger

Once upon a time there were four STARVING roommates
who didn't want to cook dinner.
The oldest of the roommates offered to buy HOT-N-READY pizza.
The other three roommates agreed.
So they were off on their quest.
The four of them decided since
because the last time they got
HOT-N-READY pizza they down one box that
this time they would buy TWO boxes of pizza
plus (+) CRAZY BREAD!
The plan was made.
The journey was underway.

Hoping in the ever trusty Durango
D4 quad made their way down 10th and onto main
where traffic was merely bearable
and even though they were growing weak with hunger
they made it - all of them.
No casualties!

While purchasing the worthy pie
the growl of our inner beings started breaking out.
Not much longer and we would have been devoured.
Turned on by the big-ones* who eat the little ones*
The pie was received.
We made a break for it dashing out the door!
FREEDOM.

Then we were faced with a choice:
1. Stop an eat the pizza on the curb of Little Caesar's (my choice)
2. Drive home and eat in the kitchen (it was growing cold again)
After quick decisions making
We saddled back in to the Durango,
escaping to the solitude of the castle.

10 minutes from walking through the gate of safety
the pizza was all but disposed of.
(Don't worry we prayed.  It was a marvelous blessing experience to say the least.)
Leaving only three pieces of pizza.
Mission: Eat Food, Feed Hunger
Accomplished!

Thanks for providing the pizza Kellie!

*Big-ones: the big fishes that eat the little fishes inside your tummy!
- My mom used to tell this to my siblings and I when we would complain about being hungry.

Today I love this song!

dear husband. . . I did it again.

Kitchen failure #2

(in the last week. . . )

So yesterday we had an COOKIE PARTY!  it was more like a cookie open house.
I made my fabulous homemade oreos- (high-five to me) Yes, they are fabulous and for the record I have never ruined them. . . (knocking on my desk!. . .it is wood.)

I was on top of things- I successfully finished making my treats two hours before the party - look at me not procrastinating!  Then I started making a book with Eric and Jordan.

Tami and Tyson had been making applesauce cookies- for some reason they left and asked if I would put the last batch in.  Being the lovely roommate I am I did as they asked- put whatever was left of the dough onto the sheets and stuck the last batch into the oven.  Put the timer on for ten minutes and left.

(Ten minutes later. . . )
I took the beautiful applesauce cookies out of the oven.  SUCCESS!

BUT wait, there was something still in the oven. . . .
I opened the door wide and to my surprise another cookie sheet.
WAIT!  did you catch that?  I said, "ANOTHER COOKIE SHEET!"
In my mind I rethought things through. . . calculating my previous actions and I had only put one cookie sheet into the oven.
How could there be two?
Magic.
I have decided that our oven is possessed. . . it isn't my lack of skill in the kitchen.

um. . .
or it could have been that I was suppose to take cookies out of the oven before I put new ones in.
Note to self: next time I "throw" a cookie pan into the oven make sure the oven is empty of other cookie pans.

*my poor husband. . . . good thing he is going to love me!

oops. I did it again . . .

(notice: the haziness of the room, the black marks on the microwave)

Before I left for college I thought I was a good cook.
Reality: I have a lot to learn.

Today I made fried ice cream. . .
I ended up frying the house-
YES I STARTED A GREASE FIRE
I will admit it!

I have been taught how to put out grease fires before
I remember learning about it in my cooking/sewing class in middle school
. . . . .
Middle school was like six years ago.
Good thing I have Jordan.
 Now for the story:
Previous to "firing up" our kitchen
I made ice cream balls with a cinnamon and cornflake shell.
There were perfectly ready to stick into the oil.

I pour oil into a small-ish sauce pan
I figured it would be easier to handle that way
I was wrong.
I stuck my first ice cream ball into the grease . . .
and well the rest is pretty much predictable

FIRE

I was panicing!
I knew water was out of the question
(luckily I remember that much)
So, Jordan put flour on it.
The flames went down, but it was still flamin'

Mean-while the fire alarm is blaring
while Tami runs to get a chair to turn it off.

I was told to put the frying pan on it.
I did
It was still flaming
Then we realized the unit was still on. . .
Oops!
Jordan braved the flames and turned it off!

FLAMES- STILL!
at this point I had the pan of grease in my hand
sloshing it around. . . all over the floor. . .
Jordan realized that the frying pan wasn't enough
She whipped out the heavy duty pan!
SUCCESS!
To sum it all up. . .
I started a house fire
I COULD have died
and even worse
I could have had to pay for damages!
(okay, so maybe that isn't worse, but still)

Jordan is super woman and always ends up saving the day.
I always tend to make the fire alarm go off
. . . especially when we have guests

and
I smell like smoke.
The house smells like smoke.
There is a eery haze about every room

Ten minutes later. . . . Jen, came downstairs and asked what the commotion was all about.

If you would like to read the story from
Jordan's point of view CHECK IT OUT!

sleep, The lack of.

Current Song playing on ipod: It's Raining Men
Current location: Living room
Current time: 2:55 AM February 20, 2011
Notice: my hair is crazy- as I get older and older it grows more curly. . . does this mean I am going more boy crazy?  or just crazy in general?  I like it though- it makes it easy and FAST to do . . . for the most part-  Thanks head for growing hair that is a little bit wild-  It makes my life interesting and gives me a chance to mix it up! (:

Good thing it is Sunday tomorrow- I can have a nap. . . (ya right!) .  I should be in bed, but I am not tired, not that I have tried to go to bed.  I bet if I laid down I would fall asleep- o well, sleeping is good but I will sleep when I get old!
It is freezing cold in our basement- It is snowing outside and I keep hearing the snow plows drive down the road.  I bet the plow-drivers are way tired and their wives are anxious for them to return so that they can sleep well again and not rustle around restless in their beds searching for the warmth of the man that lays beside them.
As soon as I fall asleep I know I am going to have to pee-  I am currently drinking a large glass of milk to wash down the Cadbery Mini Eggs that I have been snacking on all evening!  They are so amazingly good- definitely worth peeing my bed for. . . maybe not.  Gross- sorry for that image.  For the record I haven't peed my bed since I was eight years old.  I know, that is quite old to be peeing the bed I remember begging my mom not to tell anyone- especially my younger sister.
Wow, this post
is going in so many
different directions. . .
sorry about that!

This next week is going to be huge!  My friend Tyson is running for Programming VP up at the school! Dah!  nervous!  He asked me to be his campaign manager even though I have no idea what is going on! I feel like an underdog!  Maybe, just maybe we will pull through though- my fingers are crossed!  I have been designing some things and painting signs and talking strategy with Tyson.  I think he has a pretty sweet plan and it may just work!
If you are a student
enrolled at Utah State
Please vote for Tyson!
After all every vote counts
Getting all this stuff put together is reminding me of high school-
Painting all the homecoming signs, all the extracurricular activities I did, my perfectionism. . .
Yep, just like high school. . .
No sleep, lots of milk, and a messy room.

I am so glad it is a four day week next week!
Funny side note! I am going to have a longer weekend than week!
I didn't have class on Friday and there is no class Monday due to President's Day . . .
FIVE DAY WEEKEND!

Oh- by the way I would like to announce that most of my roommates (minus one) have now joined the blogging world!
I pretty much think they are amazing and I am sure you will all love them too!
Check 'em out:
  • Kellie (look our names are almost exactly alike. . except for one letter)
  • Tami (She is my room-roommate)
  • Jordan (The smart one- 'nough said.)
We have decided that we are kindred spirits. . . It is pretty legit- just sayin'

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . ONE MORE THING!
If you think my blog is even a lil' bit awesome- or at least fun to read some times (especially how I miss spell and miss use lots of words) then I think you should FOLLOW it!  I know it is a HUGE commitment and everything, but it makes me feel good!  O and if you want to share my thoughts with anyone else feel free to.

Okay- I am done now, sleep is in order. . .

Spring Fever?

Sunday afternoon it was 54 degrees
Yes, it was a whoppin' 54 degrees in February
IN LOGAN none the less.
It felt like summer.

I pulled out my cut-off shorts
threw on a t-shirt
and the J3 boys joined us for a picnic on the lawn!
SPLENDID!
(I was sick with Spring Fever!)

Not even a week later we have snow
not just a skiff either
I am talking SIX INCHES (at least)

The warmth was good while it lasted.
my tulips keep me happy.

Jordan + cooking = lots of food = happy Kelsie

Next week is going to be crazy
I hope it goes by fast
I am going home next weekend!
I need to go support my LADY WOLVES
particularly my SHAY!

Besides I am her TRUE #1 fan!

I got mail!
I love mail, it makes me happy.
I love heart felt letters to read and reread over and over and then to spend hours writing back all the thought bouncing around inside of my head!

It is Friday! I only had one class then Religion and Life- marvelous days Fridays!
A mozzarella grilled cheese sandwich and the whole weekend ahead of me!
Thank Goodness it is Friday!

Fridays.

It is simple I love Fridays.
I wish today was Friday, and tomorrow and so on and so forth. . .
I only have one class on Fridays and then I go to Religion and Life which makes my day even that much betters.
Fridays are the beginning of the weekend.
It is the first of a multi day adventure.
Fridays mean no school the next day.

Fridays = Happiness.
the end.

No offense to today (Sunday)  I love you too- I mean I always gain a lot from my sabath.
For instance today I:

  • 90% of LDS boys know how and enjoy cooking (I like this statistic)
  • I need to prepare to ask THE HARD QUESTIONS.
  • Jordan makes a mean Manicotti.
  • Dressy candle light dinners are always fun with friends.
  • There is a certain "look" that girls give guys when they want to be kissed. . . I did not know this.
I am now going to start making banana bread, even if it is almost ten.
Better late than never!

empowered.

Empowered.
I have a test today- AND I studied prior too!  (last semester I struggled when it came to studying.)
I hate using public restrooms. . . I only have one more hour and then I can go home and release my fluids!  (I know it isn't the healthiest thing, but I just don't like public restrooms!)
Two days ago I went and learned about a job that I didn't want- the reason I did it was because I wanted to be interviewed. . . Crazy? perhaps, but I like being interviewed.  After my interview they wanted me to come back for yet another interview. . . that is when I broke the new that I didn't want the job.  If any of you are curious I did really well in my interview!
For lunch today I had a FUZE.  You could call it an afternoon snack -  I didn't pack a lunch this morning  and I wasn't hungry enough to go buy HUB food, so instead I purchased myself a marvelous drink that filled my body [and soul] with Polyphenols, Chromium, Vitamin C, L-Carnitine and Super Citrimax. . . because no one really understands what those words mean it has to be healthy right?  Well, anyway, it tasted good, and today that is all that matters..
Cheers to empowerment!

bueno.

Yes, this is another food post.
Yes, I did take this picture with my phone.
Yes, I might have eaten grilled cheese more than once this week (I didn't want to buy groceries).
Yes, I am finally finished with finals.
Yes, I sold my books back for $120.
Yes, I had a nap.
Yes, it is almost three in the morning.
Yes, I am driving home in a few hours. (No, I haven't packed.)
Yes, I played with play dough, went hot tubbing and watched Monty Python and the Holy Grail tonight.
Yes, I am hungry- (hence the picture of me eating a grilled cheese. . .)

Is it weird that I often take pictures of myself eating?
What if eating was done in private like going to the bathroom is?
Yep, I really need to go to bed now.

Tuesday, December 14, 2010

quick study break.

When one has been studying all day- celery and peanut butter is the way to go.

Thursday, December 9, 2010

final. finally.

I have a headache.  That doesn't usually happen to me.  Maybe it is because I have a ponytail that is too tight, or perhaps I haven't drank enough water, it could even be the stress of all the "things" I should be doing, but instead I just keep putting off. . . I guess it could be all of those things and the fact that I need more sleep. . .  Yep that is it all of it.

I gave up on the "30 Day Challenge" . . . ha I can't believe I even tempted.  There is too much on my mind that I could blog about to even waste time on some of those prompts, besides I like my own ideas better. . . end of excuses- I just straight out don't want to do the "30 Day Challenge" anymore.

Finals Week is just around the corner and I am dreading it. . . Not because I am nervous about my finals because honestly they aren't going to be dreadfully hard (well I might slightly be nervous for my ECON test, but I don't like ECON. end of story.)  I am dreading it because I want to go home.  I have a case of "cabin fever" but instead I am going to call it "Logan fever".  I love Logan don't get me wrong but I WANT TO GO HOME!  I want to watch Shay play basketball, I want to play with my girls, I want to laugh hysterically with all my friends!  I am anxious to have late night conversations with my Grandma at her kitchen table until we are both falling asleep.  I can't wait to sleep in my own bed and do laundry whenever I want AND PAY NOTHING (I am so sick of trying to scrounge up all the quarters I can- such a pain).  I want to take pictures, I want to paint, I want to sleep in my own bed, and not have to worry being the first one up to get a hot shower.  I can't wait to be home so that I can spend the afternoons with my mom talking about boys, school, my siblings, and anything else that I have missed out on while I have been away to school. . . .I wish FINALS week could be canceled, that way I could be on my way home tomorrow!  (one more week, I can do this). . . I will also be missing "The Forgotten Carols" this year because of finals week.  I was distraught when I found out that it was the Tuesday of Finals. . . I even considered driving down Tuesday and coming back Wednesday, but that wouldn't work, I have two study sessions that night.  BUM!

So I may be slightly irritated today- but just slightly. . . I call days like these my "Kelly Clarkson Days" because all I want to do is listen to her CD and sing about the power of women and the stupidness of boys -- (to all those "male" figures that read my blog, don't take offense- I need a release and so I took it out on the male population.  I feel better if that counts for anything?)  And while I was singing my little heart out I cut snowflakes, lots and lots of snowflakes!  I made a snowflake mobil and then we put some of them on our wall. . . Now that is a funny story:

Funny Story:
So a few weeks ago, like the first of November we had a party.
We invited some of our neighbors over to eat food and well to make friends.
The party was a hit! (I have become quite the party thrower)
Anyhow we have a small hallway that leads to our kitchen. .
The group of people were swarmed in the kitchen and this hallway.
One of our guests rested his foot up on the wall
and well to cut to the chase his foot went through our wall . . .
Mind you this was no little fellow, but a shoe size of 14 footed fellow.
Poor kid felt so bad, but luckily we have it mostly fixed.
(I made a video of the fixing processes that I still need to post- thanks for the help Sam.)
We now have a wall now, but it hasn't been textured or painted yet.
So to hide the uncoloredness of the wall we put snowflakes on it.
Good idea huh!  Thank you!

NOV. 10

Logan is cold.
I had my first CHARLEY-HORSE last night while I was sleeping-
I am blaming it on the fact that my muscles were so tight because I was SO FLIPPIN' COLD!
I have a sore throat and a cough all week long.
I am wearing four layers of clothing. . . and I am still freezing.
I have to go to my swim class-Brr!
Snow is falling from the sky.
I have lots of homework.
My room is a mess.

On the upside:
English is canceled for the rest of the week.
I have a heated rice-bag.
I am going to make soup for lunch.
I made a grilled cheese sandwich instead.
I am going home this weekend!
I am taking BRIDALS for my Friend Kristina
as well as
pictures of the MY kids! (CAN'T WAIT)

(notice:I bite my bottom lip a lot)

If you can't really tell what this video is I will explain:
This video is of Eric (my FHE father) and I playing with fire.  Now I know that this sounds stupid, and someone could get hurt, but it is a grand old time!  I had a can of aerosol hairspray in the Durango and being the PYRO self I am I decided to play with it for a bit.  After torching it around we decided to spray our hands and light them on fire.  It was fun- I didn't get burning (: but Eric kind of smelt like burt hair. .
A few things I have decided this weekend:

  • NEVER play ROOTbeer pong again! (unless I practice and become flawless at winning)
  • Tyson only makes a mean man meal- (Man meals consist of lots of meat and LOTS of heat!)
  • I am starting to LOVE racquetball, I even won a game today
  • Homework is the pits
  • Naps are simply marvelous!  (I actually already knew this, but I wanted to emphasize how great they are!)
  • I love chex mix- but it doesn't mix well with the upset stomach from ROOTbeer pong- (that is why I am up so late. . . my stomach is churning!)
  • It is a great thing to have hairspray in your car, it comes in handy, not only to fix my hair, but to be used to play PYRO games!
  • Accept my feelings!
  • Despite the fact that today was a splendid, warm November day- my bedroom is ridiculously cold!

taste the rainbow.

I am addicted to Wild Berry Skittles!
I crave them!
In fact I have taken full advantage of having at least one small package a day since Friday!
I know they are probably not the most healthy treat, but they are so dang delicious!- I just can't control my self.
I think this may turn into a serious situation. . . Maybe I should seek counseling?

I am running low on my stash, so if anyone wants to send me Wild Berry Skittles I would thoroughly enjoy them- P.S. my birthday is in two weeks. . . .aye?

laundry. homework. music.

Extra long weekend! yeah!! just what I needed!

Saturday is a glorious day:

Lexi's baptism was a perfect way to kick it off too!  I was able to support her on this marvelous choice and I spent time with my family!  Well some of my family!
I wish I could remember my baptism better.
I love my grandma RueLeen so very much!
I want to be just like her when I grow up!

Did laundry - I LOVE CLEAN CLOTHES (pet peeve)
While I waited for my laundry to wash I did some of my homework- I know I am such a multitasker!
I only got finished with my math. . .
I still have economics, english, and connections homework. . .
good thing I have tomorrow-

Went to the store and bought milk- mmmm that sounds really good right now (it's fast Sunday and I am hungry!)  Oh!  I also bought eggs!
Today I think I will make homemade oreos!
Yes, they sound delicious- everything sounds delicious though.
I should stop talking about food-
I need to focus on my fast.

Played soccer with Aubrie, Sam, Parker, and Brittany for a total of fifteen minutes!
We had planned on going earlier-
but we didn't. . . I honestly don't know why either.
It was fun though- I love being outside!

Went to free concert put on  by USU of Red Jumpsuit Apparatus- It was loud and crowded ha!  And they didn't play my favorite song that they sing. . . If they did I left early.
Confession: I don't love concerts.
Well at least I haven't loved the two I have been to.
I loved watching the people in the crowd more than the musicians on stage.
I was reminded last night that my point and shoot sucks-
I want a nice camera. . . so badly!

Cooked cardboard pizza it was delicious!
Sam and I went to walmart and bought a cardboard pizza for dinner.
I was starving!
We also bought some good old Ben&Jerry's!
but by the time we had eaten I had to get home and get ready for the sabbath.

Saturday was a splendid day!
Despite the fact that I went to bed at four the previous night-
I did really good to stay awake through all my adventures of the day. . .
I did start draggin' towards the end though!
I think I have a cold. . .
Thank goodness for Day/Nyquill!

p.s. happy fasting
